Somebody Lives Here


My first painting for the Art show in Athabasca this Saturday.

Humans sometimes forget that we are not the only ones living on our planet. We are always in someone's home; they might not be humans, but they still live here. This painting evokes Fall, my favourite season, and a mix of human and nature elements. I believe we can coexist with nature and should love and respect animals and plants.

I started this painting with a base of ink from the inky cap mushroom, After I used the ink to outline everything, I painted with water colours to add vibrancy.

Athabasca Art Show: What should be remembered

                                    I showed my art at an art show in Athabasca on Saturday November 9th I picked inky cap mushrooms, and after 2 weeks, they fully dissolved into black ink. When picking the inky cap mushrooms, you only need the mushroom cap with the gills because the stalk does not dissolve into ink. Then, you strain the ink and boil it with cloves and have high-quality writing or painting ink. I used a recipe from a guidebook to make my ink; I want to try using other  Coprinus species to make ink, like the Shaggy Mane mushroom. I took Mom and Dalton (my brother) with me to see my art at the display I heard lots of people admiring my work, which makes me happy I explained how the ink-making worked to a few people while I was there, too ☺️ I was there for half an hour, which is about all I can manage, and it was fun!
